River & Woodland Garden

Doonbank Cottage’s Bothy sits within the Doonbank Cottage’s woodland garden which is full of wildlife. Guests have their own private space to the rear of the bothy and full access to the cottage’s 4.5 acre woodland garden and river. There is also an adjoining public woodland (about 13 acres) which you can easily access.

Amongst the many different varieties of trees, the woods are abound in foxgloves, honeysuckle and roses in the summer and holly and ivy in the winter. In the spring the forest floor is covered with bluebells and wild garlic.

Doonbank Cottage’s eastern boundary is the River Doon, which stretches for approximately half a mile. It is one of Scotland’s most famous salmon rivers, and on its banks Robert Burns composed many of his most famous poems, including ‘Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon’.

If you are an artist or photographer, this is a wonderful location as the colours, textures and lighting conditions make it a fabulous challenge.
